I received compensation from of Dr. Scholl’s® to write this post. All opinions are entirely my own.
New York Fashion Week — An entire week of glamour filled with endless chaos running from show to show, visiting tons of showrooms, and attending networking events and after-parties. Not to mention all of the models present, celebrities at every corner, and gorgeous designer pieces we probably will never own. A girl can dream though, right?
My first New York Fashion Week experience was this past February. While both exciting and hectic, it’s exhausting to say the least, especially if you don’t make comfortable shoes a priority. “Beauty is pain” is one of the many mantras that’s held true to me throughout the years; however, it didn’t serve me well during NYFW as I learned the hard way by allowing my comfort to take a back seat #notworthit.
With photographers taking photo ops of everyone walking into the shows, in hopes of getting that perfect street style shot, there’s a lot of pressure to look your absolute best; however, I’m here to tell you that you can still rock your favorite high heels without having to worry about discomfort.
I never thought comfort and style could go hand-in-hand until I started usingDr. Scholl’s Stylish Step™ High Heel Relief insoles and Stylish Step™ Ball of Foot cushions, but they literally changed my life, since I spend most of my time in heels for shoots, meetings and events. Dr. Scholl’s has a large variety of insoles for all kinds of shoes that serve different purposes. I purchased mine at my local Target. But the best part? I didn’t have to spend time wandering around the store looking for them in hopes they would be stock. Instead, I went online and searched the availability of both products along with the nearest location, paid for them in advance and conveniently picked them up an hour after placing my order. Talk about excellent customer service!
Since I’m always wearing high heels, I opt for insole styles that specifically cater to just that, including one of my personal favorites, the Dr. Scholl’s Stylish Step™ High Heel Relief insole. It’s designed to shift the pressure from the balls of your feet, and it truly does work! They’re like little pillows for your feet. This insole caters to women’s shoe sizes 6-10 and come as a pair. I was shocked when I found out they’re only $7.99, which is a tiny price to pay compared to the high medical costs you can incur later on if you don’t take precaution with your feet while you’re young.
My other favorite pair is the Dr. Scholl’s Stylish Step™ Ball Of Foot Cushions for High Heels. What’s great about these is they contain an adhesive to prevent them from moving around as you walk and having to adjust them, and they also absorb shock for all-day comfort. These fit any kind of women’s shoes from heels to flats and sneakers, making it the perfect everyday option whether it be to work or if you plan on standing in your shoes for a long period of time. Not to mention, it’s one size fits all and these are $5.99! Right now if you shop Target, grab a Cartwheel coupon offer for Stylish Step™ insoles!
As previously mentioned, you never know who will be photographing you at New York Fashion Week. Most of the photographers wait right in-front of the entrance doors to the venue where everyone goes in to see the shows, while others stand close by on the side streets hoping to get more candid shots. As all of the bloggers, celebs and editors make their way to the entrance, the photographers snap photos left and right like paparazzi. It’s quite exciting! Speaking of not knowing who’s taking your picture, I unexpectedly ended up on the front page of the Harper’s BAZAAR for ‘The Best Street Style From New York Fashion Week’, as well as the official NYFW video featuring their favorite looks, Getty Images, and the list goes on and on. It was surreal!
My point? You want to be camera-ready at all times, and last thing you want is a photographer capturing you trying to adjust your heel, or worse… the awkward and discomforting look on your face caused by suffering from painful heels with no support.
When it comes to dressing for New York Fashion Week, the key is staying true to your style and most importantly, wearing each outfit with confidence. The NYFW attire isn’t practical by any means or what people would wear on a daily basis; however, it’s the perfect opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with different styles, patterns and textures. There are no rules except have fun with it.
Contrary to popular belief that you have to wear the craziest outfits to stand out, get photographed and end up on major publications like yours truly, that’s not always the case. In fact, I wore outfits that were chic and sophisticated with a little edge, but nonetheless understated. Less is more, and if you’re polished and put-together, there’s a great chance you’ll stand out over everyone else who is trying too hard.
Be yourself. Be confident.
Let’s talk outfit details…
There’s something about neutrals that is so pleasant. They’re timeless, can be worn any time of the year, and everyone looks great in them. Today’s look is a classic silk button down by local Palm Beach designer, Nouvelle (available in 17 colors.) I paired it with this incredible pair of wide-leg pants by Maje. They’re the most amazing fitting pants. They don’t require any tailoring and the color is a yummy camel brown. What I love about these is you can pair them with a crop top, slides and a straw hat in the summer, or a sweater, blazer or trench with booties for the winter. Diversity is always key when investing in quality pieces to ensure you get your money’s worth.
I kept the accessories simple with my every day Delage leather bag, mother-of-pearl Kendra Scott drop earrings, a Kronaby classic gold watch, and a gold Lat & Lo cuff that ironically has the coordinates of Manhattan, New York, with the back inscription as “Stay True To You.” So relevant to today’s topic!
I’ve put my feet through quite a bit for such a young age, but I will never make that mistake again. I definitely won’t be giving up my heels any time soon, but with Dr. Scholl’s I don’t have to. Your days of having to sacrifice wearing your favorite shoes for the sake of comfort are over, my friend! With Dr. Scholl’s Stylish Step™ insoles, you can have your cake and eat it too! And remember, happy, healthy feet are always in style.
